Application Image Resizer
application, 901K, uploaded Feb 23, 2013 - 1932869 downloads

Release Notes

Here is yet another iteration toward what will eventually become Image Resizer 3. This release is stable. However, I'm calling it a preview since there are still many features I'd still like to add before calling it complete.

Updated on February 28, 2012 to fix an issue with installing on multi-user machines.
Updated on April 3, 2012 to address accusations of me soliciting a virus. (Rebuilt on a clean machine against the latest version of WiX.)
Updated on February 23, 2013 to fix Crash in context menu handler and release the French and German translations.

As usual, here is my progress report.

Reviews for this release

Simply superb. Some of the complaints seem nonsense - of course it puts it in the same folder - that's where you want your resized photo - and it lets you know it's the resized one automatically. Brilliant app, easy to use, and highly effective. Thank you very much, I'll tell others about it. BTW - I never bother to rate much... this is really nice.

Very useful and usable. Thanks for this great job
by GabrielMancebo on Oct 16, 2013 at 9:14 AM
Excellent utility - just installed - would very much like to see the planned and hinted improvements instigated, also a UI weblink to the author/codeplex page. Default image size editing would be good as in hinted improvements. Thanks.

This tools has been very useful to me since Windows XP. Tried it on Windows XP 32 bit, Windows 7 64bit, Windows 8 64bit, works flawlessly. No issues like nomiss mentioned on his/her review.

very good work!!!

very nice program!

Didn't know there was a version 3 until today. I have been using Version 2 and really love it so am looking forward to the newer design and a more possibilities with Vs 3. In Vs2 i resized 700 images that I shot in Africa and it took no more than 5 to 6 minutes at most. Now I wish I had actually timed it so I could share an exact time with everyone. I'm totally amazed at the quality.

This is an EXCELLENT product! I use it on a Samsung series 9 SSD running Win7 64 bit. Product performs flawlessly. I can resize a batch of 50 photos at a time (perhaps more, haven't tried). Resizing 50 photos is amazingly fast : about 8 seconds. Photo sizes 3000 to 7000 Ko are resized to about 250 Ko ("large" setting). No loss of quality event at high magnification. It's awsome. And really simple

I loved this in Windows XP -- I'm very happy it's been redone for Windows 7 and updated -- I do have a problem. Some have reported the app hangs when they are resizing large/large numbers of photos. I've never had that problem. My problem is when I right click RESIZE, the program can take minutes before pulling up the resize window. Once I get the Window, I'm home free -- but it can take a long time to get there. It seems typically a reboot helps, but within a few attempts it goes back to taking a while. Is there a caching or something I clear out?
by thumper300zx on Mar 21 at 6:04 PM
This is perfect. I was a bit confused at first because there isn't a program to open. But then I realized it's just built into the Windows Explorer shell, which is so much more useful. Works almost perfectly. The only thing I wish for is a second dialog box that would give progress. If you resize a large number of large images, the Windows Explorer window just freezes until it's finished.
by Kelderic on Mar 3 at 12:24 AM
Gets my 5 stars - does what it says on the tin.
by crotchy on Feb 25 at 10:22 PM
Have not tried it yet - this is stupid of Microsoft to ask before the download has even completed!!!!!!!!
by swiftstephen on Feb 25 at 8:40 PM
MAGIC!!! My clients need to resize and upload photos, and this makes it so simple for them.
by TylerKeys on Feb 19 at 10:58 AM
Search it, found it, loved it :-) Although I'd love to choose the file name suffix for the scaled images. Some more settings would be great.
by needfulthing on Feb 13 at 1:41 PM
Great job. I have trying many tools to resize my images for my website. This is really the simplest one but high and good result
by tophyips on Feb 3 at 12:24 PM
well, this is very much user friendly & comparing other softwares it looks like smooth to me....very often i used it for my to reshapes its images!
by nrzico on Nov 30, 2014 at 6:21 PM
Love and rely on this utility. It makes no sense why Microsoft removed it from Windows without replacing it with something else. Thanks so much for making it available. It's one of the first things I load on all my computers.
by Steve_M on Nov 16, 2014 at 3:40 AM
Thank you! Does it exactly what it is supposed to do! The other complaints are unfounded. Your only other option is to sit there any manually re-size every image using image editing software piece by piece.. Annoying for gallery build outs. This program allows you to right click and resize a whole folder! GOOD.
by valenvolk on Nov 2, 2014 at 8:04 AM
Excellent single purpose tool that just works, simply and efficiently. I use Xnview, Lightroom, even Photoshop on the same machine, but for 1-step re-sizing, nothing beats this. Thank you for sharing your work (and boo to the imbecilic 1-star reviewers).
by Shufei on Oct 10, 2014 at 1:49 PM
It just doesn't get any easier than this! Works fast and works fantastic. Super handy little proggy!!!
by Hogan0407 on Jul 3, 2014 at 11:12 PM
Great work!!!
by cecc on Jun 25, 2014 at 9:39 AM
I would give it 5 stars if it included malicious embedded code checking and extension verification.
by FloorPlanCoach on Jun 1, 2014 at 3:30 PM
This is exactly what I needed. Is the fixed aspect ratio working in this version or am I missing it? Looking forward to the advanced function of file size setting
by Graeme1858 on May 14, 2014 at 8:24 AM
I use this tool constantly to make photos easier to email. I just resize a 28MB aerial photo down to 1.7MB using the Large setting, it works perfectly. Thank you!
by smitchak on Mar 20, 2014 at 5:05 PM
Very useful! Another feature if you get to it: perhaps only the old files or new files could be selected after the resize, so it's easy to cut/delete. Thanks!
by trajche on Feb 27, 2014 at 4:22 PM
Worked perfectly with Win 7 32bit and now Working perfectly with Win 7 64 bit. Looking forward to the "Advanced Settings."
by xgeorge on Feb 17, 2014 at 5:48 PM
Time saver! Thanks :-)
by michje on Apr 23, 2013 at 8:58 AM
But some sorts of JPG's it doesn't shrink when keeping the same aspect ratio - it even makes the files bigger! Vers2.1 always shrinks. I've installed BOTH versions anyway for testing purpose - it's working. ;-) It calls home automatically. ;-)

Definitely my go to for image resizing you should try to emulate some more power tools for other versions of windows. Good Job

Very good. I hope development continues. I find this very easy to use
by halems on Feb 12, 2013 at 2:51 PM
Does just what I need. I was previously using Microsoft Office Picture Manager which does a nice job, but it was a pain to install on systems that didn't have it, and a double-pain to open for just 1 photo. With the shell integration, this is nifty, convenient, and quick enough for me that I don't care about a couple seconds delay in startup and resizing. Good options in latest release, too.
by rossruns on Feb 10, 2013 at 9:53 AM
It's not a virus you hypochondriacs. Anti-virus programs sometimes find false positives, especially with tweaks that change system files. This app is a necessity, I use it all the time. Keep up the good work and looking forward to the updates. Works with Windows 8 beta.
by bugmenot2 on Dec 19, 2012 at 10:33 PM
I have long searched for a replacement for the Windows XP Image Resizer program that worked as this one does. Many other programs will resize images, but none of them are as simple to use as the old Image Resizer and this one. The others do a bunch of things I have no need for. This does what I want, quickly and easily: resize images. Thanks
by MDB1938 on Dec 14, 2012 at 10:36 PM
good job keep up the good work
by angelmexicana on Dec 3, 2012 at 2:41 PM
All you Trend micro people seem to be getting false positives. I have used IR for about 2 years - never any virus problem. If it is slow on your machine, it is likely a function of your system, not the program - on my Win 8/64 it is instantaneous.
by jonrichco on Nov 22, 2012 at 6:16 AM
Excellent work!!, simple and effective. Excelente trabajo, simple y efectivo
by gcaino on Nov 16, 2012 at 1:44 PM
Great idea BUT it's very SLOW to open once you have right clicked and picked resize. Otherwise perfect for me use it several times a day.
by L00ser on Nov 16, 2012 at 12:53 PM
worked well for me. win7 64bit. Nortons had no problems with it. Thanks very much...
by winston88888 on Nov 12, 2012 at 9:07 AM
Does what it says on the tin. Such a big omission from the OS...
by steven_pack on Nov 11, 2012 at 10:32 PM
Really very useful, would love to give it 5* but.. JPEG compression is great, quality factor about 90 but more efficient compression than most other apps, making smaller files for same quality - nice! PNG & BMP not handled so well - highly compressed PNGs still only get medium compression when re-sized, 24bit BMPs are increased to 32bit - files grow (even if pixel counts are same or similar)...
by bbstrikesagain on Oct 12, 2012 at 9:30 AM
Hi ! Nice program, very useful for our girls and guys... unfortunately we're speaking french in a part of Switzerland. Is there a way to do it ? If you need help for translation it's ok for me, I'll do it :) Thanks Thierry
by Marmotte on Sep 12, 2012 at 6:16 PM
I have been using this program for a couple of year and every time I need I am totally thrilled with the productivity that it provides me with. I have never had any problems with it and for anyone who need to resize images e.g for loading up onto websites it is right on the mark, especially because it can do a whole collection at one time. Thanks guys.
by Cguisebrown on Aug 4, 2012 at 8:34 AM
every time my girfriend needed to resize here profile picture, she tried in ms-paint and always ended up with asistance, untill i found image resizer for windows... Thank you for this and the other versions even i use it and it makes it easy
by theincomlive on Jul 18, 2012 at 12:28 AM
Way too slow to start. If you want a better one, try Free Image Resizer:
by freeimageresizer on Jun 30, 2012 at 2:36 AM
started using 2 years ago.. like new options cant wait till finished. never had a problem on XP, or 7ulitmate, now on 7pro with a I7 quad processor, fast.. start up slower than expected but with code going crazy now, understandable no issues with resizing. EVER.. as for virus people need to get real virus scanning programs that work, i tend to resize 100-500 pics at a time
by snakecan2 on Jun 18, 2012 at 4:15 AM
Not a virus at all, it's a false positive. It's just extremely slow, it takes 10-15 seconds to load on my computer with 8GB of DDR3 RAM and an SSD. Other than that it's a nice program.
by darkNiGHTS on Jun 7, 2012 at 8:21 PM
VIRUS!! TROJ_FAKEAV.BMC Trend micro Worry Free warring . Keep away......
by sonbizpro on May 29, 2012 at 11:49 AM
Just what I was looking for since the MS Power Toys are listed on Microsoft's site as not compatible with Win 7 32 and 64 bit. No virus detected here either. Thanks for this! :)
by kelzipan on May 24, 2012 at 7:13 PM
A million thanks for this! I have greatly missed using this tool and have used others that simply do not come close to being as easy as this tool. Thanks for bringing it back to newer platforms! Also, zero virus warnings here. Those people are getting their EXEs attack by already being infected.
by JEmlay on May 21, 2012 at 6:01 PM
May 14, 2012- No virus/threats detected from software when I installed. Only said that they didn't recognize the publisher of the software. Great tool and easy to use. I like it when I'm in a hurry and don't want to use my PhotoShop/PSP resizer tool. Thanx for the freebie.

I've been using this utility for several years now, and it's a little gem. Thank you so much for it! Nice work!

Works perfectly. Even working fine with Win8 CP

VIRUS! the sha-1 ist wrong. please change the download. thanks
by sam600 on Mar 28, 2012 at 11:45 AM
I havent installed the application, becouse trend micro has identify this as a treat "TROJ_FAKEAV.BMC" . Can you correct this ?
by yozmag on Mar 26, 2012 at 10:46 AM
Excellent app... thanks for keeping this tool alive! One thing I'd like to see is a simple compression/quality option - Low, Medium, High would suffice.. high needs to be much better than it is now.
by robax on Mar 16, 2012 at 3:28 AM
Love this little app! I've used it since way back when it was part of the WinXP PowerToys, oh so long ago. This new version is great! Would like to be able to resize an entire Folder rather than just what's inside. But hey! I'm sure that'll come soon. Thanks for all your work on this resizer. It IS the ONLY one I use and when I switched from XP to Win 7 I was so lost, till now. THANKS!

Does what it says on the tin. Have missed this little app since I've moved from XP. Now it's back!! One of my most used apps.
by jltvpc on Mar 14, 2012 at 11:58 PM
This program solved a lot of questions on how to post a 4mb photo to my forum. I now have a peminant link to this page on the forum. I hope (Save resized image to new folder) will be in the Advanced Settings. Keep up the good work.
by ax3 on Mar 6, 2012 at 8:12 AM
Awesome tool! However, other products similar to this also allow you to right click on the Folder that the images are in, so that you can easily resize all the picture in that folder. Can you incorporate this feature as well? Thx again for a great tool!
by mherzog on Feb 29, 2012 at 4:07 PM
Awesome, can you be so kind and let me know why do I keep getting alert (A New version of Image Resizer is Available) I download this morning Feb 29 Image Resizer 3 preview 3 File version reads 3.0.4442.6002, But I still get update is avail. Do I have the latest version?
by nrhtx on Feb 29, 2012 at 3:39 PM
very good program. resize - nice ] small sorce - nice
by petroew on Feb 27, 2012 at 11:33 PM
Rubbish. Installed on laptop running Win7 64bit. Not found in right-click menu. Re-installed, not showing in Program list or right-click menu. Appears in Control Panel Uninstall list so uninstalled it. Will look again for something that works.
by nomiss on Aug 25, 2013 at 12:43 AM
I expect such simple small tools to just work. However it doesn't. Regardless of the chosen resolution it resizes the images to 1024x... It's a crap.
by Harry_GG on Aug 13, 2014 at 11:52 AM
This is a great utility. Very simple to use, reliable, and convenient. Good integration with Windows Explorer. No malware seen in app. Suggest an easy-to-find version identifier someplace in the UI. It is a frequent support headache when customers can't readily identify the version. Version can be seen in Control Panel add/remove app, but most don't know to look there.
by joema on Jul 24, 2013 at 9:27 PM
I just tried to download this twice and both times my virus protection software said there was a trojan malware attached to the download. I wanted you to know b/c your app seems really great but something is attached to it. I hope you are able to fix it so that I can use it. Thanks, Melina
by Mkonst5420 on Jun 8, 2013 at 3:06 PM
There is no thumbnail displayed, no image address, no current dimensions. If you custom resize the image without including one of its dimensions the applet is not capable to calculate a proportional value, it just make it 1 px. What is worse is that I wish to uninstall this applet but I can't find a way to do it. Even Revo Unistaller doesn't know where it is located. It seems to be Alpha.
by LESM on Mar 28, 2013 at 3:33 PM
I've said it before, probably at preview 1 or 2, the new version is just so slow. Still true. It takes several seconds to load, and then several seconds more to do the resizing. Version 2 remains much much more nimble and lacks nothing. Since no-one else whines about it (and I really do hate to complain about excellent free things, lol) I guess it's just me, but three windows installs all the same
